Yes, rational in a way. That way being short-sighted, attractive to those who prefer transactional relationships and see life--as you aptly pointed out--as a series of zero-sum games.

But ill-suited to actual adults. Which is my point, that too few males these days invest the necessary effort or discipline to grow up emotionally.
