Yeah. That belief (and choir--I loved to sing) kept me active in liberal Christian churches up to the age of 55 or so. I'd long since realized I couldn't in good faith claim I really bought into many of the Bible's teachings, but the churches I was in were actually working for justice. I finally felt conscience-bound to leave because the church at large--basically the whole religious establishment--was an obstacle to peace in the world.

And because the church at large--especially Christian and Islamic fundamentalists--were at war against science, truth, and compassion.

Fundamentalism, regardless of what religion it's attached to, is always patriarchal, misogynistic, deeply hypocritical, defensive, and dishonest. It does not make for healthy human beings or relationships.
