When Jesus knew his time was almost up, he asked Peter 3 times, "Do you love me?" When Peter swore he did, Jesus said told him each time, "Feed my sheep." I think that makes his priorities pretty clear regarding what he wanted from his followers.
As for who he was against, that list was apparently limited to hypocrites, people who exploit religion for profit, and rich people who feel no responsibility to help the poor.
I was a Christian most of my life, finally gave up on it when I realized that Christianity (like the rest of our major religions) was one of the major obstacles to world peace.
