When I speak of irresponsible individuality, I refer to the breakdown of the larger social contract. We can only live safely in large communities when we agree to restrain our baser impulses and to do our part to meet community challenges.

Although we may not have personal relationships with all our fellow citizens, we are (or should be) beholden to one another. Every person in the community (including the female ones) has a right to expect respectful treatment, which means I have a duty to call out other men when I see them harassing women.
