What a poignant story, Wistful. Knowing something of Indian culture, I can guess at some of what you've left between the lines, like mother-in-law issues and the adjustment of transitioning from the smorgasbord that is an Indian family to an insulated-isolated 2-person unit far away from everything you've known.

So much of how we do the marriage and family thing in modern times is antithetical to everything we know about human psychological needs. There's got to be a better way.
