We thought we were pretty radical back in those days, my friends and I in the University Methodist youth group. We had Black friends, some of us dated across racial lines, but we knew nothing about the kind of radical examination of assumptions you were doing. At least I didn't. Didn't start reading the really radical thinkers till college, and then got more focused on stopping the war than fighting racism. Slow learner, I guess, or just slow growing up. Still working on that.
I envy you for having gotten to meet and learn from Rev. Bayer. That's the kind of leader who can make religion relevant, give kids something worth believing in. At any age.
