Until our so-called representatives can find the will to change the tax structure, we might persuade them to approach the problem from a different angle.
The super-rich do more than just evade responsibility for paying their fair share in taxes. They actively undermine our economy by socking billions away in overseas accounts. That means there's less money circulating, hence less hope for the rest of us to prosper.
If they were simply required to spend their excess income--everything beyond $1M/year--in the US, then those dollars would keep passing through a lot of other pockets. Let them buy more yachts and mansions--spending creates jobs.
Such a solution would be a win for everyone (except the bankers in the Caymons), and no one could say the government had taken their "hard-earned" wealth.
