To me, the shame inhibiting our ability to converse about sex is inseparable from the taboo about nudity and body parts. We need to get used to the ordinariness of bodies so that we can appreciate them without fetishizing them or their parts.
The unhealth of the situation goes beyond body shame and sexual guilt. It's also one of the easiest ways for others (beginning with advertisers) to manipulate us.
But worst of the effects is how our determination to hide all matters sexual from children has led to children being sexualized at ever earlier ages. Without the taboo/fetish, they would get interested when their hormones tell them to.
