To be a racist is to support--either passively or actively--our oppressive economic system that keeps average Black family wealth at 17% of average White family wealth. Most evangelical Christians meet that definition, but so do many others (beginning with the vast majority of White males) who are too comfortable with the status quo to make much effort to subvert it.

The 4% figure may refer to the dedicated bigots and White nationalists--think "Christian Knights of the KKK"--who still cherry-pick their scriptures to justify their unrepentant hatred for everyone who doesn't look like them.

Most of the rest of "The Church" are just ordinary folk who never think too hard about the politics of their religion but go along with what their leaders tell them because they like the feeling of belonging, the simplicity of "knowing" truth, and the promise of an afterlife that only their tribe will get to enjoy.
