There's a lot to be said for the old system (still practiced in some cultures) of parents arranging marriages. "Falling in love" happens for a lot of reasons, most of them irrelevant to the potential for stability in a relationship. Letting older, wiser heads vet prospects for us makes a lot of sense.

The older I get, the less I am convinced that the ideal of a lifelong, monogamous partnership is viable for most people in the modern age.
