That’s an angle I hadn’t even thought about, though I obviously should.

I think the rage, which latches onto homophobia as a convenient weapon, rises in defense of the threat to the rejected one’s ego. If your self-image is heavily invested in being “irresistible to men,” you’re likely to take it personally when a man finds you completely resistible.
