We are all competing for readers. Competing in a friendly way, but still competing, for money, for validation as writers, and for influence.

If we're good writers, we know how to hook a reader in the first few lines of a story, but the reader has to bite--to click--before the hook can grab them.

A well-crafted headline is the bait. Titles matter. To call them clickbait is to demean the writer's craft.
