You present a rather simplified view of the origins of Christianity--the movement benefitted from good timing that let it piggyback on the growing popularity of Zoroastrian cults, among other things. And religions of the day were replete with miracle stories and virgin births and such.

But as for what religion is or should be, "doing the best you can" to follow an enlightened teacher is a pretty good summation.

My point, though, was about American Christianity as a political force that has had and is still having a profoundly dehumanizing impact on society.
