Yes, we have lost our sense of connection. But I don’t think it was all that long ago. Just in my lifetime, the arrogant and selfish individualism of my country has turned from passive indifference into active efforts to crush the hopes of the poor and silence the voices of those who want to see more justice and equality for all.

The idea that we get the world we deserve is terrifying.
