My impression was that Hindu beliefs were the reason for the limited rights and extreme constriction of options for women in Indian society.

This is what I have heard from women who grew up in India but now live in the US: Women are perceived in India as powerful and empowering, but only in the context of the family. Males are favored in schools, courts, and the workplace. Female fetuses are aborted, women with jobs are considered undesirable for marriage, powerful men exploit and abuse women with impunity, and inadequate dowries can lead to brides being murdered.

These observations led me to conclude that, although Hinduism may not be inherently misogynistic, Hindu beliefs and/or traditions place strict gender-role expectations on women that greatly limit their options in that culture.

If you have first-hand knowledge, and if you can tell me why these issues are not related to the Hindu religion, please inform me, and I will make the necessary correction in my article. I am always glad to learn.
