Perfection is ruining so much of what we are. People listen to digitally mastered performances by virtuosi, thinking that's what music ought to sound like, and they are afraid to pick up their own instruments and share amateur (literally meaning loving) creations or renditions of their own.

America--at least as constituted these days--would never make netsuke. Old and broken things must be discarded, just like old and broken people.
