Some years back, SNL had an androgynous character named Pat, created and performed by Julia Sweeney. Pat dressed in gender-neutral clothing, had a mid-range voice, and resisted all efforts to get them to reveal their gender. The point, of course, was to showcase our discomfort with sexual ambiguity, in a time when trans and other non-binary people had not yet begun to be prominent in our culture.

Personally, I'm fine with it, just as I'm fine with people saying no more than they want to about their sexual preferences. What business is it of mine what's between their legs or who they share it with in bed?
