Some of this nonsense may be the vestiges of an era when women were excluded from higher education. (Even now, there are places where girls are expected to stay home and help their mothers, in part because female literacy threatens the patriarchy.) When only men were educated, it was easy to assume women were less capable of grasping complex thoughts.

The socialization process in America (probably in most Western countries) encourages men to ignore most emotional states other than anger and competitiveness. This renders them less capable of processing their emotions and more likely simply to react rather than thinking them through. That's why I find women in most cases to be more logical and reasonable than men.
