Family myths — like “people in our family suck at math” — often are self-fulfilling prophecies. If there’s some aspect of math you’d really like to master, I’d suggest you look on Youtube for Kahn Academy tutorials. Guy’s a champion explainer, and thousands of teachers recommend him to students who get frustrated, especially with math.

It’s interesting, what you say about your husband showing more respect for his daughters than for their mother. Could be because they have some of his DNA, but it could also be that — like many insecure and/or abusive men — he needed to keep you thinking you were the dependent one.
