Of course all deities are in our minds, something we create through our imagination to fill various psychological needs. That doesn't make them bad.

I've seen how religion can be, in fact, a force for good. People need community, not because they're weak, but because they're human. And when the church reminds us to take care of one another, it can help to make our human culture more humane. As the Dalai Lama said, "My religion is compassion."
