Of course there are many people who follow the same ethical principles as Jesus taught without belonging to a Christian church. And many believing Christians whose natural human compassion has been corrupted by politicized preaching.

I don't know how you'd ever get percentages, even rough estimates, but evangelical church membership is dropping lately, while membership in mainline non-evangelical denominations is increasing. So maybe there's hope.
