Love is what we want and need, but nearly everything about the modern dating process makes it difficult to get there, from apps that grease the skids from swipe-right into bed, to all of the impression management that makes it difficult to find out who each other really is.
And it isn't just the modern trends that are the problem. "Traditional" patriarchal concepts of gender roles in marriage and fairy-tale tropes of happily-ever-after set us all up by engendering unrealistic expectations.
