In my previous career as a psychologist, one extremely intelligent and hard-working client came for help with the question, "If I'm so smart, why aren't I rich?" I had to confess, the question fitted me just as well.

"Winning" may be what our "president" does--acquiring notoriety and power over others. If we look at those who do it best, we can see it has no relation to wisdom, virtue, or quality of life, but a lot to do with luck.

I always enjoy your articles, but this one is (so far) my favorite.
