I'm glad someone challenged the counselor and her no doubt well-intentioned messaging. Sadly, it's a single sandbag on a badly broken dike.

Where schools and counselors can do more good is by providing more ways for girls to build real self-esteem that sidesteps the pressures of social media, advertising, and other unhealthy pressures. Interest, service, and activity-based clubs, for example.
