If you're convinced you're too "average" to compete, that will be a self-fulfilling prophecy. But not because the women are too picky. The average guy has always been kind of average, but he stays in the game, and on the average he makes connections. In spite of what some people tell you, life is not a beauty contest, and neither is dating.

If you're on an app like Tinder that encourages snap choices based on photos for people looking for hookups, switch to one like Match that lets you make your case in words for what makes you an interesting person. Describe your passions, your philosophy, your idea of a good time. And when you reach out to someone (hopefully for some reason other than how "hot" she is), let your introductory note say what it was about her profile that piqued your interest.

There are thousands of lonely, average-looking women out there, hoping to meet someone who will show an interest in them as human beings. You have the power to be that someone. Case closed.
