If by "boring" you mean a reality in which I would feel safe not checking the news multiple times daily, I'm with you. Batshit crazy should not be a qualification for a position of public trust.

Regarding your essay, I think what we're up against is the way American capitalism has degraded our democratic republic into a plutocracy. (Also a kleptocracy, but that will hopefully decline with the next regime change.)

I'm hoping the pandemic will have a lingering impact on our economy, to the point of more attention being paid to making sure everyone's basic human needs are covered, rather than all of us having to convince some richer person we deserve to eat.
