I try to be careful with statements that refer to "the religious" as a single entity, as I have known hundreds personally whose intellectual capacities were not compromised. Your first statement captures that point admirably.

Most Eastern religions are best understood as philosophies, not systems of belief, and do not require acceptance of illogical propositions. Buddhists only see God within each person, and Hindus know their pantheon is metaphorical.

It's a shame that evangelical Christians, like fundamentalistic Muslims, have been mentally and morally corrupted by the pressure to believe that which any healthy human mind rejects as dangerous nonsense.
