I think you're onto something, Genius. But the paradox only goes so far.

Yes, we will be fascinated by that which is unlike us. What can I say? I was married 25 years to a West Indian lady, and my son's got some awesome dreads.

But without shared goals and values and compatible temperaments--all of which come from some deeper similarities--it will be hard to build a stable partnership. My lovely WI lady was a classmate in grad school, so the superficial contrast was trivial compared to how much we had in common.

We def seek challenges and thrills, but there's no lack of those in ordinary life.
