I especially appreciate your pointing out how feminism has been misperceived, primarily by men who rightly feared their privileged position was in danger.
I have called myself a feminist since I first heard the word, and even before that I knew the movement was about freeing all of us from gender-based assumptions about who we could or should become. Another common misconception regards the Crusades, which were not about religion (though they pretended to be), and in which the Christians weren't the good guys by nearly any standards.
