I don't see anything unreasonable about insisting on emotional maturity from a partner, even if just for a date or two. Adult relationships require a minimum of 2.0 adults; 1.5 or 1.9 won't do.

And way too many men aren't brought up with the expectation that they will try to understand--or even pay attention to--emotions, especially women's emotions. So they grow up stunted, clueless, and entitled, pretending to be rational yet at the mercy of their unpredictable testosterone surges. (I wrote about this recently: "Why Do Men Pretend to be More Rational than Women?")

I wish more women would develop and maintain the kind of standards you have eloquently advocated here. It angers and embarrasses me to see women with fine minds and talents settle for mediocre half-grown men, just because nobody taught them to insist on more.
