I am in full sympathy for all the othered people, and I won't say they should be patient in their struggle to be recognized as fully human. I'm glad to have lived through such a period of global awakening to the glorious diversity of human gender.

That said, I read the statistics differently. Yes, there is a stubborn and vocal minority who continue to cling to their medieval myths regarding who we are. That group has been emboldened by the political climate, exploited by plutocrats and cynical religious "leaders," and amplified by conflict-promoting algorithms on social media. But that group is the same group that denies the reality of science, insists on the right to rewrite history, seizes every new conspiracy theory no matter how farfetched, and is actively attempting to scuttle American democracy.

I believe that group has pushed their luck too far, and the pendulum is starting to swing back.
