I agree 100%. Incarceration is a violent option, a bad choice even in cases where all other choices are worse. And it's applied unevenly, destroying whatever therapeutic purpose it might serve in most cases, creating far more problems than it solves.
We need to deal with the racist systems--economic, political, etc--that are sustained and protected by the racist law enforcement apparatus. We won't, though, at least not in this country, until we can get past the brainwashing that has made a religion of capitalism. And of firearms. And of patriarchy.
I just find it amusing to see myself these days, cheering for the FBI and chanting, "Lock them up!" I know I need to find compassion for these people. I'm no Christian, but I do believe in "Love your enemies, pray for those who persecute you." But holy shit they scare me.
