Honestly, as much as I support this approach, I don't think the same rules work on this type of platform as when offering feedback to students or supervisees.

First, we must remember that for the people who leave insulting comments, the cruelty is the point. They don't read for value, they just react to titles or skim for phrases to object to. They want to ruin your day. IMO Medium should watch for those trolls, warn them once or twice, and ban them if they persist.

If I click on a story and find it badly written and/or simply wrong about essential facts, I don't dignify it with a comment. I used to offer a snarky "Bless your heart" to insipid comments on my stories, but now I just ignore the ones that don't go far enough to need reporting.

When I disagree with a writer's thesis, I do so politely and specifically, and I am careful to say that what I am offering is not a correction but a contrary opinion, and I explain my reasons for disagreeing.
