Great monster stories all, like Frankenstein, hang on the question of what it means to be human. The humanity of "new Adam" versus the monstrosity of his creator. The ever-presence of death in life.

I was aware of the "game" to pass the gloomy summer, but not the rest of Shelley's story. Thank you for telling it. It does help me understand the writer's genius to know the pain beneath it.
