I find Rajaneeshwar's (your) argument--that it is all right for men to objectify women when those women have chosen a lifestyle or manner of dress that makes them sex symbols--unpersuasive.
There is still a human being behind the clothes and makeup and other trappings of the persona. And if we excuse dehumanization of people because they strive for (and dress for) attractiveness and popularity, where do we stop? At what level of fame should a woman lose her right to be treated respectfully?
This attitude skates dangerously close to the rape defense that says the victim was "asking for it" by dressing provocatively. I'm sure that's not what you're advocating, but that is the logical next step.
