"Eventually, all you'll see is rearview."
That seems like a truism, but I'm not sure I accept it. I'm a month + a week from 70, and still much more inclined to inhabit the present and organize my actions around the future. Also, I'm not sure our impressions of our past are significantly less distorted than our expectations regarding our future. Those snapshots we drive away from are just stories.
But yes, I too love motion through space, anticipating the stories I will experience far away from wherever has been "here" for longer than I wanted. Highways--especially good highways--are not scenery, but they still make my happy despite their sameness. (A haiku: Interstate highway / see the country without / seeing the country)
