Capitalism is a system in which your worth is measured by your ability to make yourself useful to someone with money. In extreme form, it means if no one will hire you, you don't deserve to live.

The alternative begins with recognizing that every person has intrinsic worth, and therefor, everyone has a right to the necessities of life, from food and shelter to education and healthcare.

There's nothing wrong with competition in the economic marketplace. But people should compete for luxuries and honors, not for the right to live.
