Advertising uses images of things we like to look at as a way of grabbing our attention in spite of the fact that most of us don't want to look at ads. That's what needs to be banned. I mean it--my attention has real value, and when it gets hijacked by a clever ad, I lose something important.
Even when an ad shows only an attractive face, it's still tapping into something instinctual and arguably sexual. There's no point in trying to restrict its content--American commerce is a law unto itself.
As for nudity, the only way to start undoing the fetish we have made of it will be to normalize it. Challenge the laws that require us all to cover up. Let our children grow up with no fear or shame regarding body parts.
