Aaaugh! Medium is Doubling All my Comments!
How to make it stop
It’s not completely new, this problem. There have been many times in my nearly two years here that readers’ comments on my stories appeared in duplicate or triplicate. I often wondered if they were aware of it.
But today it started happening to me. Like, every time.
Fortunately, I caught it right away, so I didn’t have to go back and delete the extras. (Which is easily done, by the way. Just click on those three dots and choose the “delete this comment” option.)
Here’s what’s happening: When you click “respond” to post your comment, your newly posted comment does indeed appear below, as it should, BUT the words you just typed do not disappear above. So you’re tempted to assume the posting didn’t happen and click the “respond” box again. And when it still hangs there, if you don’t notice that it has appeared below, you may even try a third time.
Your comment may be wonderful, insightful, and well worth a second reading, but you don’t want to be that guy.
It’s a glitch. And no doubt it will be repaired before too long. In the meantime:
- Before you click “respond” again, check to make sure your comment hasn’t been already posted. You can tell it has, because beside your tag the words…
